Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer to join our Specialty ingredients G.P., business at our Hopewell, VA location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company, and the Plant Engineering and Operations functions. This position will report to the Process Engineer Manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES include, but not limited to:

  • Follows site’s Safety Policies and Procedures
  • Investigate, discuss, and solve complex problems by interacting with manufacturing departments, contractors, and internal customers.
  • Help further company culture of implementing new solutions and continually improve existing processes.   
  • Evaluate current systems and modify as appropriate to improve performance
  • Determines root cause of chronic operating problems. Recommends and assists in implementing solutions
  • Analyzes production data and quality data to determine optimum operating conditions
  • Utilizes Lean manufacturing techniques/tools for identification and implementation of continuous improvement projects
  • Provides technical support for capital projects including creating function specification documents
  • Support project implementation FAT and SAT
  • Support the site’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and sustainability initiatives
  • Investigates opportunities to improve plant through-put and capacity

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, other Engineering or Technology Degree
  • 3 + years’ chemical plant manufacturing experience

The following skills sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • Previous experience with Control Systems (preferably Emerson Delta-V)
  • Relevant automations experience (DCS / PLC control system configuration)
  • Aspen Manufacturing systems
  • Knowledge of and/or use of Lean Six Sigma
  • Previous experience in Production Operations
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM)
  • Hazard Analysis - HAZOP, PHA, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO Systems.
  • Team Player with excellent written and oral communications.
  • Proven data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven planning and organization skills.
  • Proven self-starter with urgency for delivering results.
